Kennedy Gates

Kennedy was first introduced to the wonderful world of improv in 2003 when she took her first improv class in Chicago. There she completed training programs at iO (formerly Improv Olympic) and the Annoyance Theater and studied under Mick Napier, Noah Gregoropoulos, Jeff Griggs and Mark Sutton among others. From 2003-2007 she performed regularly at the Playground Theater, Donny's Skybox, Annoyance Theater and with her Harold Teams at iO.

Kennedy developed her physical style of play and often bigger than life characters while on the all female group DUCHESS. DUCHESS performed throughout Chicago and at a number of festivals including, the Dirty South Improv Festival (now the North Carolina Comedy Arts Festival), Chicago Improv Festival, Seattle Improv Festival, Toronto Improv Festival and Providence Improv Festival. In 2007, DUCHESS emerged victorious in iOs bracket style cagematch, earning the independent team a run at the theater.

Kennedy first performed with DSI in 2007 while on its Chicago-branched team DSI CHICAGO. She started classes at DSI in 2009 after moving to NC for law school and has loved the theater's game-based quick play ever since. She's learned from the incredible teaching styles of Jeremy McDonald, Paula Pazderka and Zach Ward.

Kennedy is an avid Tar Heel, Bengals and Reds fan and can often be heard speaking fondly of unicorns.
