John Reitz

John started studying improv in 2003 as a member of the self-directed CHHS Improv Company. From there he has played with the Close Quarters Team CRANPA HESTER, as well as the Harold teams THE HAPPINESS, BABY LIBERTY. He has performed in the DIRTY SOUTH IMPROV FESTIVAL in '06 & '07, as well as THE DEL CLOSE MARATHON '06 & '07. Through Comedy Sportz, he has performed in Richmond, VA as well as Buffalo, NY. As a huge advocate for high school improv, John has spent time volunteering with improv groups at Chapel Hill High School, East Chapel Hill High School, as well as Jordan High School.

Currently, John is the Assistant Coach for UNC’s premier improv and sketch comedy group CHiPs. With DSI, in addition to playing and voicing for COMEDY SPORTZ, John is also a member of the powerhouse team PAPA FIBONACCI and has recently started playing with MISTER DIPLOMAT.

He has studied under Corey Brown, Ryan Locante, Ross White, Scott Jennings, Chris Conklin, and Zach Ward and workshopped with Charna Halpern, Ross Bryant, Asaf Ronen, Joe Bill, and Mark Sutton.

Aside from Improv, John is currently a sophomore Teaching Fellow at UNC Chapel Hill double majoring in English and Drama, with a minor in Religious Studies. In addition to improv, John enjoys: working at the Bull's Head Bookshop, watching Jeopardy! with Sarah Eldred, and participating in other dramatic opportunities around the area. Some of his favorite endeavours include roles in: Sweeney Todd, 1776, Jesus Christ Superstar, Bat Boy The Musical, You Can't Take It With You, The Complete Works Of Wm. SHKSPR (abridged), and The Elephant Man. John is also an Eagle Scout and not ashamed of it.

John is deeply indebted to the time he spent with the CHHS Improv Company which will always feel like home.
