Documentary South Opens in Chicago

Dirty South Improv’s “Documentary South” opens Saturday, June 4, 10:30 p.m. at The Playground Theater. Originally developed in New York at the Upright Citizen’s Brigade Theater as “The Documentary,” Chapel Hill-based DSI developed “Documentary South” as an adapted outgrowth of the original form. Dan Telfer directs a new Chicago cast performance of the one-act longform improv show that blends the mock-umentary style of Christopher Guest’s films with Chicago’s native son, improv comedy.

“It’s an incredible opportunity for me to continue the tradition of The Documentary form,” said Telfer. “New York and North Carolina have had great success, but now ‘The Doc’ comes home to roost in Chicago. I’m honored to have such a great tradition and cast of players under my direction.”

Documentary South runs Saturdays at 10:30 p.m., June 4th – June 25th, 2005 at The Playground Theatre, 3209 N. Halsted St. Tickets are $10. Call for reservations, 773-576-4043. Additional performances are scheduled for August and September.
