You don't realize how excited we are in Carrboro to see the 8th annual Dirty South Improv Festival promoted on MySpace and listed as the featured event in North Carolina for the next two weeks. DSI has been contacted over the past few years by people across the country developing comedy talent - Rooftop Comedy, MySpace, MTV and the Independent Comedy Network - Why? Because Dirty South continues to be seen as a force on the comedy scene.

Despite our size and the relatively small location of our home theater, DSI has had an significant impact since 2001.

The big show for 2008 (Saturday Feb 23rd, 9pm) is a perfect example of what DSIF can do, educating the world to the possibilities of improv and comedy as an artform. MC Chris and Death by Roo Roo studied together at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in New York. They have both taken that training and applied it to careers on the road and on Adult Swim with the Cartoon Network. BASSPROV tours the world performing and teaching improv. Douglas Sarine from AskANinja.com studied in Los Angeles and has created an internet phenomenon as an advice wielding ninja.

These artists have taken the fundamentals of improvisation and made an impact beyond the stage. DSI booked this group together because it's going to be hilarious and it should be an inspiration for the 400 other comedians attending the festival and students looking to see what the art form of improvisation (an art form of "make-em-ups") can make into reality.
