DSI teaches the art of standup comedy. Learn how to use your persona, build on a premise, develop a joke and generate punch lines until you find ones that really hit. Learn how to spin true stories and rock a routine that both engages and entertains your audience. How can you get the most mileage out of You?

CLASS REQUIRES OUTSIDE WRITING.

CLASS WILL MEET FOR 90 minutes every week.

Shane Smith

In the summer of 2008, Shane quit his day job to focus on a career in comedy. He began in NYC at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater and studied under Kevin Hines, Betsy Stover and Ari Voukydis. In 2009, Shane met Zach Ward in NYC at the Del Close Marathon. Realizing what he wanted was right next door, he enrolled at DSI.

Shane has had the opportunity to train under the masterful instruction of Zach Ward, Paula Pazderka, Joe Bill, Jill Bernard, Will Arnett, Jeff Griggs, Rachel Madorsky, Tara DeFrancisco, Megan Gray, Eric Hunicutt, Paul Thomas, Josh Cohen and John Betz Jr.

In 2011 Shane was a featured performer for all three weeks of the North Carolina Comedy Arts Festival. He did stand-up and performed with the Harold team The 708 as well as the sketch team Crunchbot. He was a featured performer with The 708 at the Charleston Comedy Festival and the Spontaneous Combustion Festival in Atlanta. Shane was also a finalist in Port City's Top Comic and Carolina's Funniest Comic Competitions.

Shane has previously performed with Retweeted, Wikileaks, The 708 and the DSI Tour Co.

Originally from South Dakota, Shane now lives in Raleigh with his beautiful and hilarious wife, Jeena. They have 2 cats with a total of 3 eyes.
