YOUTH 101: Improv Comedy (Ages 8-10)
Improv is the art of making it up. Students will cover the fundamentals of improvisation and comedy scene work. By learning performance games and taking risks in a safe environment, DSI students develop the ability to tell stories collaboratively and work in the moment.
DSI classes will help students: Improve verbal ability; Enhance active listening skills; Build body awareness; Boost self-confidence. Improvisation can have a positive impact on students both on- and off-stage.

Instructor: Colette Henderson
Colette grew up loving comedy and is delighted to be onstage creating her own. Born in Boston, she spent most of her childhood in Chapel Hill. From age 8 through high school, she was a competitive horseback rider and taught riding at Springforth Farm in Durham. Colette graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill with a degree in Elementary Education in 2009. She is currently a 4th grade teacher in Cary, NC.
She began her improv studies in the summer of 2005 with Zach Ward, and has since studied with Jeremy Griffin, Austin Nava, Callie Peck and Paula Pazderka. She has workshopped with Joe Bill, Rene Duquesnoy, Anthony King, Anthony LeBlanc, Kevin Patrick Robbins, Asaf Ronen, Jane Borden, Corey Brown, Kevin Thom, Megan Gray, and Jeff Griggs, among others. She was a member of the all-female powerhouse ensemble Elaine as well as Comedy Sportz. She now performs Improv Slam regularly and sometimes can be found impersonating Diane Rehm or Kirsten Dunst in Match Game. She also teaches DSI summer youth camps.
In addition to comedy, Colette enjoys working with kids and goofing around with her improviser boyfriend, Bryan Barnes.
